Commercial Ice Melting Technologies & Formulations

Better Ice-Melting Performance in Demanding Conditions

Purpose-built de-icing and anti-icing products, manufactured by Nu-Tec, balance melting speed, low-temperature performance, surface considerations and application control across changing winter conditions.

Achieving Reliable Performance Across Changing Winter Conditions

Temperature, precipitation and surface conditions can shift quickly. Effective ice control requires different approaches to de-icing, anti-icing, surface protection and application control.

A Range of Formulations for Different Ice-Control Needs

Nu-Tec manufactures granular ice melters and FS2000™ liquid anti-icer at its Putnam, Ontario facility, combining base materials and performance additives into products suited to different conditions, surfaces and application requirements.

How Formulation Chemistry Improves Melting Performance

  1. Different Ingredients Serve Different Conditions

Formulations combine materials such as sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, urea and CMA to create distinct performance profiles.

  2. Additives Enhance the Base Formulation

Performance additives such as FS2000™, a magnesium chloride solution with a plant-based derivative, coat every particle of select granular ice melters to speed melting, help prevent refreezing and help manage corrosion.

  3. Liquid Formulations Support Anti-Icing

FS2000™ liquid anti-icer is sprayed on surfaces before snow or ice arrives to help prevent bonding. One application can last 3–5 days, and one pail covers as much area as up to 7 bags of granular ice melter.

  4. Visible Markers Support Better Application

Colour markers (orange for Firestorm Intense, blue for Vanish and green for Natural Choice) make treated areas easier to see, helping operators apply product more consistently and reduce overspreading.

Performance Across Speed, Temperature and Application Control

Different formulations allow operators to balance melting speed, temperature range, corrosion considerations and application control based on the needs of each site and weather event.

Fast Melting Action

Firestorm Intense, Vanish and Natural Choice coat every particle with performance additives for fast-acting melting.

Low-Temperature Options

Firestorm Intense melts to -35°C (-31°F), while Vanish, Natural Choice and Tundra are effective to -26°C (-15°F).

Corrosion Management

Firestorm Intense and Natural Choice include a corrosion inhibitor, and FS2000™ is 70% less corrosive than salt (tested to NACE TM-01-69 as modified by PNS).

Application Visibility

High-visibility markers help operators see where product has been applied, supporting more controlled use.

Built for Demanding Commercial and Municipal Ice Control

Nu-Tec ice melters support commercial and municipal ice control on roads, parking areas, sidewalks and other high-traffic surfaces, with FS2000™ liquid for pre-treatment and granular products for active de-icing.
